Something magic with oranges


Let's start with something concerning both chemistry and food , wich is the aim of this blog .Let's take an orange and let's talk about something that is usually wasted : the peel .
If you squeeze the peel near a candle flame , the squirts suddenly take fire .Amazing eh ?
This appen because in the skin of citrus fruits there are glands containing the volatile oil responsible of theirs characteristic flavour .
This oils are often quite flammable .

Recipe of the week : chocolate mousse

Ingredients per 4 people :
Chocolate : 75 g black chocolate
60 g sugar
50 ml water
2 eggs white whipped
230 g whipped cream
Caramel sauce : 4 eggs yolk
120 g of caramel
60 g sugar
Chocosauce : 1 dl water
30 g cocoa , 30 g cream

Preparation : heat in a high pan the black choco , water and sugar .When the boiling point is reached continue for 3 minutes and let it cool down .Combine it with the white and the cream , whip the dough , warming it on a pan of boiling water , and make it a zabaione .
For the 2 sauce just mix the ingredient on the boling water pan tryng to incorporate much air as possible .
Finally take four small glasses , pour fist the choco , than a thin layer of caramel and finally the chocosauce .Keep it in the fridge for at least 2 hours .

Bengala

Posted by Picasa Hello world , i have contract the flu , but this can't stop me , even better I am seclusive at home so I have much time to spend writing here .Today is thursday , this is the day of the chemical reaction .I have choose this picture on the left for a reason : working with chemicals can always be dangerous , so you can perform the experiment I'll suggest you week after week only if you are an expert chemist and wearing all the protective stuff necessary .After this suitable handful of advice , we can start with the chemistry .
Some history before : in the ancient India , priest pressed in pyramidal or spherical shape stronzium salts with carbon , potassium chlorate , sulphur and burnt them in the semi-darkness of the temple : them were the 'bengala'.
Attention! The reaction raise a big amount of fume .Potassium chlorate and sugar must never be mixed up in a mortar , they can give an explosive reaction .
Tools : paper sheets , fireproof plate , pipettes , gloves and glasses
Reagents: Potassium chlorate , sugar powder , barium nitrate , stronzium nitrate , sodium nitrate
Red fire : 10 g KClO3 , 10 g sugar , 20 g Sr(NO3)2
Green fire : 10 g KClO3 , 10 g sugar , 20 g Ba(NO3)2
Yellow fire : 10g KClO3 , 10 g sugar , 20 g NaNO3
Execution : the substances are put on a big paper sheet , blended swinging carefully the paper and pored on the fireproof plate in a sausage shape .The blend can be burnt pipetting 1-2 drops of concentrated sulfuric acid on one extremity of the mix
Final treatment : the ashes are mixed with a NaOH (aq) solution , the filtered can be poured through the sink , the deposit stored in the heavy metal waste .

Otur

yesterday I have started my blog-experience and today I'm badly sick : could be a presage?
Anyway I am galvanize to share with you my opinion and my interest .
From the next week you will find here many interesting ( some are still pending in my mind ) , forsure there will be the recipe of the week and the chemical reaction of the week ( or maybe for 2 weeks ). I am also thinking about an hystorical section concerning food but , you know , other ideas will arrive with time and of course with your suggestion .
So just to break the ice now I will teach a completely natural , effective and easy way to cure yourself ( but please don't take it too seriously , could be dangerous ) .The name of the cure-all cocktail is , from me baptize , tachipirin^a .This name is derived from the name of an italian paracetamol containing drug and the famous drink .
Here is the recipe : boil a glass of (cheap) red wine whit some lemon juice and a spoonful of chili for a few minute , let it cool down and drink it all way down .
I have tried and actually you feel better for abuot half an hour , maybe because the outrageous suffering of the 2 minutes after drink make appear (is it correct ? ) your disease just a worthless thing .I was forgetting to explain youthe meaning of the title : is the swedish word for unlucky .

Beginning


This the first time for me writing on a blog , I mean on my blog .I'm not an expert in this kind of matter , but I think this is a powerfull tool to get in touch with the global community .
Of course I have to improve my English tongue knowledge , but just writing here could be a good start .Oh ursha^kta mig , I haven't introduced myself : Marco Lista age 21 nationality Italian city Remondò (PV) but now I am in Sweden for erasmus project in Lund .
Anyway these are my principal interest : fita , chemistry and kitchen .
